This year, for the first time since — I can’t remember when, I threw a birthday party for myself. I did it exactly one week after my birthday, and I invited my good friends in the area as well as their kids.
It’s a little bit different, throwing a birthday party for yourself. I invited everyone, I got everything ready, I made sure the house was cleaned and ready for company, I baked and decorated my own birthday cake, and I did all the cleaning up afterwards. But, it was still a lot of fun. 🙂
Our kids are all getting a bit older now, and I was impressed with how well everyone played together. The kids have really come a long way.
It was nice to have some adult conversation, and once again, I was thankful to have been born at Christmastime, because there are so many lovely decorations up around this time of year! The house looked extra special for the holidays, so it was a good time to have a party.
My favorite part of the evening was playing Christmas songs on the piano, and having both kids and adults singing along. Music really does bring people together in a special way.
I was glad I put out the effort to have my own birthday party with my friends. It was well worth the effort.
